Out-licensing of life science technologies and product development programs to partners is a common strategic approach to accessing additional skills, expertise and infrastructure that may not be extant in small- or mid-sized companies. As an approach for accessing capital, however, out-licensing may be less attractive than royalty monetization or revenue interest financing strategies that meet companies’ near-term financial needs, while retaining control of their key intellectual property assets and the economic upside of those assets.
