The biofuel industry has shown much promise, but as yet, has not been able to match the hype that surrounds the alternative energy approach. The biofuel industry, whether based on “first generation” technology of generating ethanol from fermented sugars and starches, or the long-anticipated follow-on generations seems to be following the same trends, and encountering many of the same roadblocks, that have been shown for other disruptive technologies, such as
the commercial antibody paradigm of a few years ago. This LES Spring Meeting workshop had an expert panel address licensing issues pertaining to the nascent bio-fuels industry.
