Since the Bayh-Dole Act was signed into law, academic institutions have steadily added technology transfer offices as part of their obligation to research administration. Where many of these offices were initially and almost solely focused on innovation management through the protection and licensing of discoveries, new paradigms in technology transfer have driven the formation of hybrid offices. These new technology transfer offices are an amalgam of IP licensing, economic development, industry outreach, faculty service and research administration. These increasing and evolving roles change the nature of the licensing office and create challenges to the management of the office. In this webinar, Dr. Alan Paau and Dr. Matthew Raymond will discuss their experiences in the management of evolving offices and bring the perspectives of a larger office (Paau) and a smaller office (Raymond).
